The Compressed Air Technology behind MDI's Air Car

The MDI Air Car compressed air technology engine incorporates various innovative and unpublished systems, i.e. in its very conception (Compressed air for fuel), in the materials it uses (Plastic parts, vegetable oil in the engine) and in its technical design.

In this last point, we should emphasize the articulated con-rod system with the piston pause at top dead centre, allowing expansion at constant volume. In fact, this system can be adapted to a conventional thermal petrol engine.

The propulsion group is one moto-compressor, with a Cat's compressed air technology engine, a unique gear box and a moto-alternator. All MDI Air Car engines were conceived according to technical tests, used and applied in an innovative way. The moto-alternator starts up the compressed air engine and refills the compressed air tanks.

Thanks to this unique system, the MDI Air Car engine is transferable to vehicles other than automobiles. It has been tried successfully in ships and power boats, but its capacity for storage lends itself most to vehicles and opens up a whole range of new applications.
